The Lunch Date Scarf

The Lunch Date Scarf is designed to make the most of beautifully variegated yarn.

Worked from side to side, the scarf gradually increases to form the widest point of its diamond shape before decreasing back to a neat point. Filet sections break up the rows, while a mini pom pom at the beginning of each row creates a playful textured edge.

Description

The Lunch Date Scarf is designed to make the most of beautifully variegated yarn.

Worked from side to side, the scarf gradually increases to form the widest point of its diamond shape before decreasing back to a neat point. Filet sections break up the rows, while a mini pom pom at the beginning of each row creates a playful textured edge.

Designed by Melu Crochet for self-striping, gradient and multicoloured DK yarns, it is an enjoyable crochet project that allows every shade transition to unfold naturally. The sample is made with two balls of Utopia Crafts DK Ombre in shade 007.

The finished scarf measures approximately 180 cm long × 51 cm wide, including the mini pom poms.

What You’ll Need

  • 2 × 100 g balls of Utopia Crafts DK Ombre — 300 m per ball

  • 4.5 mm crochet hook

  • Yarn needle

The pattern is written using UK crochet terminology and includes complete written instructions, progress photographs and a step-by-step Mini Pom Pom Stitch Guide.

Tension is 14 stitches × 7 rows in treble crochet over 10 cm using a 4.5 mm hook. Exact tension is not essential, but variations will affect the finished measurements and yarn quantity.

The design can also be adapted for other yarn weights by choosing a suitable hook size. When working with a limited quantity of yarn, divide it equally before starting and use one half for the increase section and the other for the decrease.
